With hydroponics, complete, balanced nutrition is easy!
In fact, that's what hydroponics is all about - delivering nutrients directly to the plant without the growing media getting in the way.
Ordinary growing materials (such as bark, moss, etc.) breakdown and decompose over time. This alters their chemistry and blocks important elements your plant needs for healthy growth. Exhausted growing media also traps traps unused nutrients that can be toxic to your plant.
You have no way of knowing what your plant is actually getting because your growing media is getting in the way.
Our hydroponic system replaces all those potting materials with a ceramic growing media called LECA (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate).
LECA pebbles never breakdown or decompose. They deliver the nutrient solution to the plant gently and evenly and don't change over time.
Orchids need 16 elements for healthy growth. Most fertilizers skimp on nutrients and rely on the growing media to provide some of the nutritional elements.
Relying on the growing media for nutrition is risky. Ordinary potting materials break down and decompose so there's no way of knowing what your plant is actually getting.
Hydroponic Advantage: Hydroponics doesn't rely on the potting mix for any nutritional value. That means hydroponic fertilizers have all 16 nutritional elements plants need, in a form they can use immediately. No complex chemistry needed.
Exhausted potting materials block many nutrients from getting to the plant. This not only robs your plant from getting what it needs - the unused nutrients turn to salt and eventually become harmful to the roots.
If your growing media is bark or moss, your fertilizer could actually be harmng your plants!
Hydroponic Advantage: In our system, the LECA pebbles are a sterile ceramic that will never compact or decompose. You'll never get "exhausted media" eliminating the "trapped nutrients syndrome".
Over time, impurities build up around the roots in the grow pot. This can be unused nutrients or chemicals from your water source. Removing impurities from the grow pot is just as important as adding nutrients. The only way to remove the impurities with traditional growing media is repotting the plant. This disturbs the roots and quickly becomes time consuming as your orchid collection grows.
Hydroponic Advantage: Removing impurities at the roots is easy with hydroponics. Simply take your plant to the sink every couple of months (or use the garden hose if outdoors) and leach the pebbles thoroughly. The relatively smooth outer shell on the pebbles allows any foreign matter to wash away. This is impossible with bark or moss.
1. Using water gauge as a handle, lift plant from outer pot

2. Leach root system by running clear water through pot at sink -approx 5 - 10 seconds

A complete, balanced nutrition program is simple and easy with our hydroponic system. You'll see the difference in a matter of weeks!
